An exhibition by Roger Hopgood.

Using digital assemblage, Roger Hopgood’s work presents us with familiar spaces made strange through the introduction of extraneous elements. In each case, the result is suggestive of narrative; we detect hints of scenarios from popular film and television – landscapes evocative of post war British sci-fi, interiors that bring to mind ‘whodunit’ murder mysteries. Ultimately, it is notions of Englishness and cultural heritage that are being referenced – an entrenched familiarity that is both comforting and disturbing.

Roger Hopgood completed his PhD in Art Practice at Goldsmiths College, researching the picturesque photograph. He is currently Programme Leader for University of Kent’s BA(Hons) Photography.
