Stillness in Motion: a journey of captured moments in the landscapes of changing seasons
An exhibition by Marybeth Haas
These images were made on train journeys between 2011 and 2016 departing from Hastings. I began work on this series in 2012 when I decided to use my 5 hour daily commute to be creative and enjoy the beauty of the passing landscape instead of being stressed about my long journeys. I photographed what struck me as beautiful or interesting as I looked out the windows. I became fascinated with the impact that movement had on the images combined with the effects of differing light and weather conditions. The results of my experiment are images that surf the edge between representation and abstraction and which may challenge conventional views of what can be seen as beautiful.
