PhotoHastings 2023

Taking place throughout September, October and into November, since 2010.

For September and October 2023 PhotoHastings has secured the largest space at St Andrew Mews, Hastings, comprising a free-flowing gallery incorporating 6 individual rooms for exhibiting. Our residency forms part of the new owners generous free opening of spaces in the mews, for artists and makers this year. We are excited by the potential of the space and to be a part of this new endeavour. We have decided to include September this year for the PhotoHastings season as it coincides with Coastal Currents and the Turner Prize at Towner in Eastbourne. There will be a larger footfall of people visiting the area and it’s a good opportunity to promote contemporary photography in the area.

For October we have secured 4 weeks at Electro Studios Project Space. Reflecting the success of last year’s booking, we are considering creating 6 different exhibitions during this time and will be sharing part of the space for 2 weeks with Picnic. Picnic will be taking over the top gallery with photographic works by young photographers working with a photographer/facilitator. This will be an exciting strand to the PhotoHastings festival encouraging a younger audience and perhaps members as well, working alongside another like-minded group.

We will be presenting a photographic art trail to run in Hastings for October, placing photographic works in shop windows and other premises, producing a map in order that people can find and locate works throughout the town. The ever popular Photology series of weekly talks organised and presented by Alexander Brattell, will be returning to The Pig for 5 weeks in October.

Members will again be exhibiting at Hastings Art Forum in October and November, and we are sure further venues and spaces will be filled, events arranged, books printed and online galleries created.
